In 2018, Crisis was overtaking the world, Europe had fallen into economic collapse, The US withdrawn into internal conflict, Russia and China fought to claim what territory they could as the political scene burned. War grew in the Middle East unchecked as the world devolved into near complete anarchy, topped only by the UN’s forceful attempt to take sovereignty of a few small nations. By the time things settled in 2032 the world had been changed, many nations of old completely demolished and replaced. What had once been Europe and Asia now stood as the Eurasian union, The Americas as an “Atlantic-Pacific Conglomerate” With a few remnants of territory still claiming their own sovereignty scattered across the world. The aftermath though left clear signs that the earth would not last another conflict, a new space race sparking as people reached for the stars. The first true interstellar colony ship would set out in 2128 to Alpha Centauri, Traveling at a fraction the speed of light it arrived by 2187. Though the worlds there were dead they were claimed all the same, grand bio domes forming the basis of a new interstellar empire. Over time this would expand to a region within almost 100 light years of the Orion arm being colonized. Communications however were slow, leaving many settlements to often never hear of the core worlds again. Technology similarly had slow spread, Cold fusion, nanotech and 3D replicating being among the stuff the core worlds considered common place. Traveling off from the core worlds though often led to lesser and lesser technology, some worlds being thrown back to the industrial age if not earlier due to loss of knowledge or lack of key infrastructures. Most of these frontier worlds though would never return to the stairs, people developing over again without ever reaching upwards again. Humanity though was soon to find they were not alone in the universe, finding other races out there, often in the same situation as humanity itself. These aliens would often find that they too had spread so far among the stars that they could not even count themselves as a whole people anymore, with their own frontiers being just as hard to contact. The speed of information often limiting not just the humans but others as well, leaving many colonies to have governments only on a local level, often rising and falling without ever hearing from another world let alone an interstellar power. While each planet had its own form of local government, city-states were the most common, formed by colony ships declaring themselves a sovereign nation once landed. On this planet, Martina, this is not just the case but the Status Quo, with some of the largest city states having forged nations in their own right. Settled in 2298 by a Spanish colony ship and named after their late Captain Martina, Martina was a world beginning own ice age. Its global temperature was cooling slowly but was still ripe for colonization. Colony ships over the centuries came to the world from across the far reaches of space, reaching a population of roughly 840 million alien settlers by 2600. Almost every colony ship declaring itself a Sovereign nation as they landed, eager to set themselves up as a new power upon the world. Technology however was soon to regress as Martina held its own issues, Silicon, vital for most every electronic could not be produced in a pure enough form to be worked. The greatest efforts resulting in silicon hardly even considerable for practical use. Regressed to the state of Early-Mid 20th century the various city-states still hold the same eagerness to set themselves as a power. Martina however as many colonists found, was not the uninhabited rock that many would of thought. Natives calling themselves 'Altheni', adapted to the cooling temperatures of the world they had a thick coat of fur of varying colors to keep warm. Short in stature they often stood 4'2" to 4'8", with shorter individuals not being uncommon. They themselves were undergoing their own industrial revolution when the Spanish colony ship arrived, the peak of their technology being steam and water-based engines and power transfer, rifled muskets and the beginnings of industrialization. The arrival of 'Alien' settlers did spark some development as the Altheni were a xenophobic race, seeing need arm themselves against this new 'unknown'. Although relatively backwards (The 302 years after 2298 holding some advancement for them) they are still a force to be reckoned with. Their revolver rifles, although primitive by the standards of 2600, proved to be effective still as in the past year they over ran the City-State of Szetilan. Horror stories still spread by survivors of the great numbers they fielded with tactics that were devastatingly effective, leaving many to wonder just how “Defenseless” the natives really are in the face of the modern 'powers'. —GAME RULES— 0: Admins word trumps, decisions may not be final pending review. 1: Keep sanity in check, If you need equipment reference, Google it. 1a: If you are going completely silly, at least make it fit, keep a theme running! 2: Keep things IC, "Because" is never a reason, Actions have consequences. 2a: 'The voices in my head told me so' is a reason...So long as you keep going with it. (Be the lunatic!) 3: Technology is Early-Mid 20th Century: 1901-1950. 4: The Natives and NPC city-states are run by Admins, don't player control them. 5: Edit your Nation Sheet, Keep it updated. Note- When selecting starting area. Choose somewhere in the area C-F 1-7. This is to get people closer together at start.

2517, May 14th, Saturday (time stamp not required)
Summer was beginning to roll in full swell, Much to the relief of many people in the Neo Terra region. The past spring had seen some of the heaviest rainfalls on record. The rain had been foolishly blamed upon a colony ship that had landed in the north arctic and had melted large swaths of ice with its engines. News of native activities in the Haldor Major region had been about the only things of foreign news to be discussed. The Citystate "New Nebraska" had grown increasingly desperate for aid over the past year, concluding with reports of the Dan'Mari Empire having successfully breached the walls; this was old news however as several months had passed sense the breach with little to no word of the situation. Today however something far more significant was taking place in the capital cities of several nations within the Neo Terra region, the result of almost forty years of work was drawing to a close. Thousands of kilometers of cables had been laid in order to establish reliable long range communication. Technicians at several junction stations were making the final checks to ensure the system would be functional, the project had already been delayed a few months when it had been discovered one of the major lines had suffered a fault during a minor quake.
Finally though a technician at Acropolis signaled to a representative, the representative picking up the phone, the technicians already switching the board to put him through the line. A few minutes passed as the signal passed through the network, the special line splitting at a few junction boxes as it was carried to the representatives of the various nations. The First phone to ring would be in New Mesenthia, The second in Pomorze, Third in line would be Columbia. Pustitina, New Freital and Alkania would soon find their phones ringing as well. The representative would simply smile, waiting for people to respond before speaking himself.
In Pustitina the phone was quickly answered, Sumarsa being the Representative to pick up the phone as she said "This is Sumarsa, representative of Pustitina." The project to establish the phone line had been something of minor importance for the people of pustitina, the easy sea access to three other city states had left them fairly well informed of activity. The rail system running through the mountains only furthered their ability to communicate prior to the phone. Though this would still be of note for the first time they could contact New Mesenthina or Alkania within short time. Despite this though there was a number of people already waiting for this event to finish so they could make use of the phone network themselves. Further still however being the Muzidrevo people they had already gotten quite the volume of wine available in celebration of the network being finished.

May 14th, 2517, Saturday
The heavy rains that had hit Alkania during the winter and spring months had been welcomed in the Western part of the country, but in the east it had been more of a nuisance. A large section of farmland that used the mountain springwater had gotten flooded during the end of March, damaging several acres of crops, thankfully no one was injured in the sparsely populated area, but it had still set several farmers back quite a bit. In the City of Alkania, representative Fargo was waiting at his desk when the phone rang and he quickly answered it "This is Fargo, Alkanian Representative." he said. The cable had been a rather hot spot for news lately, with so few countries near by, news didn't come as quickly to Alkania especially during the winter months when shipping lanes were slower over the north of Neo Terra due the increase of icebergs, they usually only got news from ships coming north from the Haldor Major region or from New Mesenthia in the southern part of Valdarian Bay. All the excitement had caused several businesses to let their workers out early to join the festivities that were being hosted by 3 of the major phone companies in Alkania.

Imperial Year 208, May 14th, Saturday The completion of the cable network was a hot topic in New Mesenthia. They didn't have much contact with the other nation states. The distance involved and the mountains to the East made it hard to get up to date information. The phone was answered rather quickly in the government palace. "This is Foreign Minister Gladwin," the foreign minister said after picking up the handset.

The debate in the Oberkommando der Republikwehr would come to a close as the expedition of the Heavy Cruiser Große Freital to Louventi was decided on. Along with a company of infantry, their goal would be to strongarm the natives there to ceding a base. Going west all nations would notice a distinct pattern. The natives got less advanced and more uncivilized. The past six hundred years of liberalism, progressiveness and tolerance faded away quickly the further one got away from Sol, with those on the frontier having almost no moral qualms about calling any sentient natives they encountered 'savages' or 'primitives.' The case in Freital was the same as every other frontier Human nation, and that was a direct embrasure of classical imperialism.
The staunchly conservative government in the German-speaking nation sought only one thing in foreign affairs. Germano-Irish supremacy. Exploitation of natives to the point of genocide, clashes with native nations and even other human nations, strongarming other nations into 'leasing' territory to them with fine print fine enough to make a corporate lawyer have to sit down. All of this was viewed as O.K. by the Freitalian people and the Freitalian Reichstag. Although the plans by the Oberkommando der Republikwehr were unapproved of by the Reichstag at the current moment, but the dealing with the legislation of annexation of occupied territory could easily be taken care of at a later time.

The majority of Pomorze's population, living in the rain shadow of the mountains, were sorry to see the rains pass. Water bills would creep up once again. The completion of the cable network would finally allow easy diplomacy with the states on the other side of the continent, though Pomorzian foreign policy was mainly focused on keeping friendly terms with it's closest neighbors and thus largest threats. The Freitalians were far over land but the Republic did not want to feel naval or air strikes. Pomorze and Pustitnia shared the bond of good drink, Pomorze holding a large spirits industry made possible by it's vast crops of things to turn into vodka.
The call from Acropolis would arrive in the Pomorzian Foreign Office, quickly being transferred directly to Daniel Rutkowski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs himself. "Minister of Foreign Affairs speaking," he answered.

The Representative responded after a moment "As a representative of Acropolis, I do officially declare the phone network in operation. For now this channel works as a conference call for us" With that he paused for a moment before saying "I will however comment that with the phones in operation there will be a call shortly from another representative in regards to New Nebraska, Good day to you all" he hung up the phone at that, looking to one of the technicians that just said "Columbia is having some technical issues, apparently a beached whale is keeping technicians away from a junction box. Something about the smell" The representative just shook his head before heading out to alert the people. In Columbia itself said beached whale was proving particularly troublesome to remove now due to the sheer size, Martina itself lending itself to some truly titanic beasts in the ocean depths.
Meanwhile in Pustitina, Sumsarsa just said casually over the phone "You know, I was partly expecting something more from this phone call" In the background the sound of a wine bottle cork being popped could be heard as she poured a glass, outside the people already got the news from the technicians the network was operational. Pustitina had already taken the measures to preemptively tap the government channel for recording, at least for incoming calls, in addition to tapping lines to Pomorze. Outside of this though it wasn't much an event, save for about a third of Pustitina's population trying to call every number they could in Pomorze's capital just because they could. A fairly smart switch grid though quickly decided to just drop most of the calls instead of put them through, partly from the technicians responding to it and partly because there just wasn't enough capacity in the network yet for that volume of calls to a single location.

Fargo leaned back in his chair, saying, "Perhaps, but then again, Acropolis has always been rather to the point, at least when it comes to their sailors that stop by our port." he glanced out the window, apparently someone had been watching through the window for a successful call, probably with binoculars, because the festivities had begun. He could already see a huge line forming by the toll booth in the square where people were trying to get calls in to anyone and everyone they knew in New Mesenthia, he just hoped they would have the sense not to block the phone lines for the next week, or the new cable would be pretty useless for the next few days.

The completion of the phone line, unlike in every other nation, would illicit no celebration in Neu Freital. Domestic phonelines were already well established and most households had a phone, every person in the nation was reachable and some even had the equivalent of Earth's early answering machines. The hooking up of the domestic phonelines to foreign nations was nothing new, and most people in Neu Freital didn't even know anyone outside of the nation.

It wasn't long until another representative from Acropolis came on the line, only a few minutes at most. The representative simply stated "Hello, I am Frank Mandover, as my compatriot likely stated earlier I am here to talk about some information we have gained on the situation in New Nebraska. I assume everyone on this call is capable of acting as a representative or at least able to provide the information to the proper channels." The sound of some papers being shuffled could be heard before he said "I am however aware that Columbia is unable to join us, something about a whale, a packet will be sent to them in regards to this situation. Now as I said this is in regards to New Nebraska, as I am sure you are aware some time ago they had been breached by the natives and has gone silent sense then. What I am here to share however is intelligence we have gathered. The first and foremost is that the navy of New Nebraska is currently sitting on the bottom of their harbor, damage present however suggests they weren't scuttled intentionally"
Frank gave a pause to take a breath, then continued "Its rather clear that some sort of explosive had been used along the keel of the vessels, causing a rather fast and swift sinking. Further more it is confirmed that natives could be seen patrolling the streets of the city, the full extent of this is unknown presently. What is known however is that the wall they had been rather proud of had at least two distinct points of breach, cause of the breach as yet unidentified, however what has been identified is that the natives have indeed occupied the town, the flags of the Dan'Mari empire could be seen around town. Attention was drawn however to the fact that the trade canal being built down there has been halted with no sign of the digging equipment that had been used. Finally it was noted that a fairly large standing army seemed to be camped around the town, intentions are unclear presently however along with how long they have been there. All I request however on behalf of Acropolis is for discussions of a possible relief plan for New Nebraska. I will contact you all again should additional information become available, That is all" With that frank hung up the phone, glancing to the papers on his desk, He had more then enough information to share still but he felt it best to gauge how the other nations might react first before revealing more.

The New Nebraska situation had elicited some alarm in Mesenthia when it came up. The notion of a primitive native army successfully fighting a modern army was seen as ridiculous. The command staff had dismissed it as rumour, nothing more. Just the whisperings of some refugees wanting to scare some people for shits and giggles. Plans for fighting natives had always taken into account the known facts. Tactics and strategies and equipment from Earth's Napoleonic era and Kesh's equivalent. Massed line infantry, lancers, hussars, dragoons, and horse drawn field gun carriages were the norm then. The same was expected of these primitive natives. That and The Great War showed what happened to massed infantry when faced with artillery and machine guns. Now that alarm was coming back. Acropolis wouldn't bring up information if they didn't think it was correct.

For Pustitina the news of the situation in New Nebraska only elicited some panic among civilian, using the same information taps as before to learn about the New Nebraska situation. While a few quick petitions were put forward by small groups requesting for Pustitina to get involved the heads of government simply ignored them. It was however decided that the situation would be a perfectly valid one for expansion of their forces. While the New Nebraska situation was considered only a passive threat due to distance the knowledge that the trade canal being halted was however more concerning. Lameri set forth the construction orders once alerted how much supplies were available to him for construction.
A Ek' Tuunich battleship was the first to be ordered, due not to the New Nebraska situation but over concerns of not having adequate pressure on the waters surrounding pustitina's territory. However an additional 3 Lak'in iik' tanks ordered along with another support group of 2 Ka'an Kinsik and 2 Aal Tsiimin. The construction orders staged so the ground units would finish together.

The news of the attack in New Nebraska has elicited quite a bit of concern in Alkania, because of how isolated Alkania is compared to many other city states, the wandering natives to the north make regular raids on the farms and villages in Northern Alkania, which keeps the military very busy. Government Officials have begun considering expanding the National Guard, if the information from Acropolis was correct the natives were starting to use more advanced weaponry and better tactics, future attacks could devastate the Alkanian Economy if they weren't protected against. Also, reports have been coming in from Eastern Alkania about natives in the mountains steeling cattle and raiding farms, a small contingent of troops is currently on its way to deal with the situation.

On the shores of Columbia, a large effort is being made to remove the beached whale, decisions being made on exactly how it should be done. Before long, and after sweeping the idea of "Blow it to high hell!" under the rug and hoping nobody heard that someone actually suggested it, the final decision comes down to a vote to bury it, closely matched against trying to drag it out to sea and hope that it goes anywhere else than the shoreline again...at least not close to the box. A few brave individuals tried to power their way through the horrifically bad scent to finish the connection, but it continued to fail miserably due to being unable to stand it for long enough to finish the job. It didn't take too long for the construction vehicles began rolling down onto the beach to start digging the trench for the whale's grave. No doubt the rest of the world is waiting for them to hurry up and finish up with getting on the line...
Back in the capital, the president opens up a packet that had been labeled as from Acropolis with a calm hand, though his calm is quickly broken once he starts to read over the contents - New Nebraska has fallen, with natives patrolling the streets. This had to be a joke...but then again, Acropolis wasn't exactly known for sending pranks out in official documents. He flips through the information on his desk before calling together a meeting with military officials - Production of equipment needs to be brought back up to full for the defense of the nation against any attacks from the native populations, and the navy needs to be expanded to protect the coastline from invasion. It would take a while for designs to be drawn up, so a few suggestions were made to dig through archives for further old naval designs to modernize and build off of, as was done with the existing ships within the navy roster. After bringing the staff up to speed with the packet's information, he sent a reply to Acropolis giving an assurance that they would be connected to the phone line by the end of the week, and that their military will be prepared for if they need to assist with the New Nebraska situation. He can only hope that the civilians are fine. The thought of them having actually fallen is almost unthinkable!
