no idea where this is going, but yeah
Plot/timeline: 2014 elections in Ukraine elect a leader who is pro EU. This causes even more resentment among pro-Russian Ukrainians. Russia claims the ballot was rigged and deploys troops to right the wrong supposedly. Pro-Russian revolutionists and Russian troops over power the Ukrainian military and Ukraine is annexed. The international outcry is deafening but China offers no official comment.
The UN and NATO told Russia to depart from the illegally conquered Ukraine. Russia does not heed the warning and stands firm. After some debate, war is declared on Russia. Western troops are deployed to Poland and Belarus and other neighboring countries of Ukraine. Thousands of Russian troops are deployed to frontier territories in the West. In 2015 allied forces invade Ukraine and fight with Russian troops. The Russians try to counter by piercing through Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia and then behind Belarus and Ukraine to hit western forces in the rear to cut them off. A diversionary offensive hits Belarus at the same time. This ambitious attack ultimately fails, however.
Russia gets beat later and the Moscow treaty is signed. It is something similar to the treaty of Versailles. Russia is broken up into multiple states. Russia is also forced to disarm the military. Russia is diminished into a smaller country, and the rest is the Ural Republic, Siberia, and Yakutsia. In addition, a smaller state named the Chechen Republic is made. The Russian people are greatly angered by this injustice, but weren't in a position to stop it. President Putin is put in prison and later executed for starting another war and causing the losses of many lives and also for the use of chemical weapons in the last part of the war in an act of desperation. Most importantly in the war, new missile defense systems such as lasers and ABMs are tested when Russia attempted to use nuclear weapons as another act of desperation. The ICBMs are mostly intercepted and destroyed by kinetic kill weapons; but said weapons were not perfect. One ICBM hits the Polish city of Lodz, and another hits Kiev, which had fallen to Western forces earlier. Two more hit Dresden, and Antwerp. Another hits Seattle in the United States. The war takes a large toll on the world economy. The American economy finally flat lines from the stress of the large war and years of debt. A recession comparable to the great depression starts. Europe continues to let in immigrants to keep their struggling economy afloat. Many are from developing countries in the Middle East and Africa. Terrorists jump on board the immigrant train and sneak a dirty bomb into Berlin. It goes off, irradiating Brandenburg and killing thousands.
On a lighter note, the ITER Fusion reactor is finished. Fusion was now a reality, which was a great milestone for humanity. Middle Eastern countries are terrified of this development, as their oil and natural gas industries will be undermined. Even though fusion will take awhile to become widespread, it's still a bad omen to the fossil fuel industry.
Native Europeans were already starting to resent the new comers and some were advocating stopping immigration. With the new recession, this opinion grew. The dirty bomb only escalated it. The Islamic immigrants were blamed naturally and deportation starts. They start getting interned at internment camps before being sent off. Fighting breaks out across Europe between native Europeans and immigrants. The Europeans had the upper hand, however. They had heavy military hardware, unlike the militia groups that were trying to fight against the deportation. Still, the immigrants and their supporters had force of will and stole what they didn't have. They also got support from terrorist groups in the middle east.
Meanwhile in the USA, many radical groups form with their own ideas on how to help the country. None of them can agree and fighting starts; First verbally then physically. Militia groups are formed along with petty gangs. Domestic terrorism breaks out across the country as a result. The Homeland Security Act and NDAA are put into effect and martial law becomes a reality in the USA. The government outlaws firearms among the civilian population in an attempt to fight domestic terrorism. Many candidates for the election are disqualified and detained to 'maintain homeland security'. An unpopular president is elected in a rigged election. The American people are outraged at these injustices. After this a low yield nuclear weapon somehow gets shipped into DC and it detonates, killing the president. The chain of secession is effectively broken and the revolution starts via states declaring sovereignty. They form alliances which start fighting over what's left in the now shattered USA.
With the chaos in both Europe and the US, a still growing China with strained resources starts a large land grab. Indo-China, Mongolia and other countries are absorbed. SEATO starts mobilizing forces and watches for Chinese aggression. Japan also mobilizes and makes deals with SEATO. Indonesia and New Guinea and Malaysia join SEATO. Tensions grow between SEATO and China and both start negotiating with India to get India on their side. On another note, the Middle East fears anti-muslim sentiments in Europe and creates the Middle Eastern Coalition. The MEC is similar to the EU in that it's a loose collection of nations that are still sovereign and have their unique identities. However, the MEC is heavily disputed, especially in Syria and Iraq. Tensions were also still quite high between the Shiites and Sunnis and as a result they didn't coexist very well. The MEC was not by any means a powerful institution compared to NATO or China. It is forced to make a strong and permanent military presence in Iraq and Syria. It becomes obvious the occupation forces only partially helped the situation. Some members of the occupation forces were corrupt and turned a blind eye to atrocities made by members of their sect of Islam. Still others are open to bribes. Though, this is not to say all MEC troops are like this.
The Confederate States of America wins the Second American Civil War. Hawaii and Alaska agree to join the new CSA. Brazil creates diplomatic relations with the CSA, as they had good relations with its predecessor. NORAD is restarted with Canada. Like before, the Cheyenne mountain command bunker is the HQ for NORAD. The CSA also starts making economic ties with Europe again. Both were reeling from the wars and needed to prop up their economies. Before the war with the Russians, the world economy could be said to be stagnated. Now that was hardly the case. There were lots of areas to improve and invest in. There was a reason to make national industries instead of going abroad.
