Its the early FTL era, humanity has spread as best it can, men and women can spend years traveling the great merchant lanes that keep the young empire alive. In the time humanity has spread they have discovered they are not the only races to exist in the galaxy, this first discovery being almost society shattering for the sheer ramifications that humanity wasn't alone in the stars. At first though, humanity discovered little more though then ruins of other races that had died out long before they reached the stars, in others they found the ruins of empires that had simply faded away into nothing even after reaching for the stars. However, in 2281 that all changed, on the desert world of Ixuri, the Ixurians were found, a race of bird like people, fierce warriors who had only recently begun to ply the stars. The Ixurians, equally shocked by discovering humans, caused both sides to be slow to respond to each other. Over time though the two races have come to co-exist rather peacefully, the Ixurians earning some very fine respect from humanity in the rather routine competitions. However they were not the only race to be discovered among the stars, The Kavikreka being the second.
In 2303, The Kavikreka were discovered, though a space faring race they seemed perfectly content to dwell within their massive system, hidden by strange astrological phenomenon in the area. Scientists from all across were flocking to the scene of this trinary system, which not only held a habitable planet the Kavikreka had developed on. They themselves though were strange strange creatures, developed on a low gravity methane planet, they were completely bizarre to what we expected. Yet despite humanities best attempts, the Kavikreka's mind was so distant and different that even the best diplomatic attempts could get little care from them. Through the years though, Kavikreka have occasionally walked among humanity, so different in mindset they are welcome in any institution within both human and Ixurian space.
In 2355, Humanity and the Ixurians quickly found that not all life found could be pleasant. The "UESC Napoleon" (United European Stellar Core) returns as the sole surviving vessel from an exploration fleet of twelve, the situation unfolds into something that sparks even the Kavikreka's interest. The crew of the vessel was found to of been driven insane and the Ixurian captain dead from fear, the logs of the ships computers told of an even more frightful tale, a phantom ship that to date no one has encountered, not once did it seem to fire, though ships seemed to tear themselves apart in its presence. The sound and video recordings snagged from communications have thus far remained classified, rumors abounding that just listening or viewing them would drive a man insane. conspiracies have strangely been silenced as even they dare not question the situation given it was enough to provoke a response from the Kavikreka as a whole.
In 2417 The "RCFS Alexei" (Russian Combined Forces Ship) is on its training cruise in the far reaches of human controlled space. A mixed race crew consisting of both civilians and military, these vessels served as both a standing force and as a relief aid for planets. Almost two years from normal space and months from the nearest aid, they are alerted of a deadman alert. A local colony tasked with laying the foundations for biodome cities had suddenly gone dark. On its training cruise, the ship was not to get directly involved, however given the nearest ship would be unable to respond for the better part of a year, the captain decided to approach regardless of the risks. Alerting the crew and recruits of the situation, the Alexei is soon to be underway, even then they were still almost two weeks out. Thus they approach the colony with hardly a clue as to what happened, save only that the colony's deadman alert has gone off in an otherwise quiet colony.
The "Grade 3" Refers to being capable of "Second Fleet" or "Raider" duty in military service. In civilian service it's able to respond to Grade 3-5 problems, specifically "Major, Minor, Incidental" problems. A deadman alert for a colony is automatically a "Grade 3" problem, this stems from the fact the deadman alert at colonies requires no activity from command authorized staff for at least 72 hours, which given that there is at least three command personnel minimum at each colony it is normally a non-issue. This combined with the travel time of the RCFS Alexei means it will arrive a minimum of 408 hours after the last activity from command personnel assuming no activity occurs. The Deadman alerts themselves are tied into a quantum communications network, relaying to their "relay hub" which in turn routes up the chain to command. Command then in turn relays information down the chain to specific vessels. This is strictly a governmental use though as the network is still to young to handle full standard communication.
FTL itself in the setting is accomplished via a "Quantum Drive", A piece of engineering marvel that only a few even begin to understand. Created by "Samson Kinguard", a scientist who's work still remains largely classified, he is widely marveled as "Tesla Reborn" with his almost uncanny understanding of the universe itself. The quantum drive itself serves two primary roles. The first effect is changing the fundamental laws of reality around a vessel, causing the vessel in question to be able to travel faster then light without moving in a traditional manner, rather causing the vessel to "Slide" along the edge of space to accomplish FTL travel. The second being the creation of artificial gravity on a ship via specialized conduits, though this is a side effect of its primary effect and in turn was actually discovered on accident during a demonstration of the drive.
The Alexei itself has a fairly small crew, only 80, 50 of those being engineers. However it also carries a further 120 soldiers, divided into 6 platoons of 20, further divided into 2 Squads of 10. Finally there is a staff of 40 Civilian "Specialists" on board able to provide advisory information on various colony situations. The soldiers normally operate as a mix of extra crew members and manual labor for the civilians. The Alexei itself unfortunately was designed by russians and as such crew ergonomics wasn't very high on the list, leaving the vessel somewhat less then comfortable in deep space, however it does carry a wide range of equipment on board for a variety of situations. Conventional Ballistics are still fairly common use due to simplicity and ease of repairing/replacing/rearming out in the field, robotics however have seen a lot more development, the result of which is each squad is further equipped with a "Combat Robotic Frame Unit" or "CRFU" for short. These AI units operate as Heavy assault units along with often lugging around far heavier equipment then the soldiers could carry. Exosuits while present are normally reserved for intensive situations due to limited field endurance. Cybernetics/Bionics are also used though they tend to be taxing on the user due to using bio-electrical interfaces, generally medical will try to vat grow a replacement organ/limb if the facilities are available and they have the time.
Each Squad however is broken up as follows
Command Officer (Often doubles as Forward Observer)
Cavalry Scout (Designated Marksman/Recon)
Combat Medic
3x Riflemen
Assault Rifleman (CQC Specialist)
2x Heavy Riflemen
Combat Engineer (Sometimes replaced by 2nd Combat Medic)
Combat Frame Robotic Unit, Servers as Heavy assault unit.
what I'd like to know is if anyone would be interested in this, given I'd need a few people before it can actually start.

UPDATED INFORMATION (Images to come later)
The RCFS Alexei is a "Grade 3" Destroyer, referring to the situations it is capable of responding to. The ship itself maintains fairly light armor, utilizing a "Liquid Electrometal" defense underneath its armor for defense. The electrometal following similar principles to a Newtonian fluid with the exception of requiring an electrical charge to harden. The liquid nature allows it to be easily replaced from tanks onboard while the armor can be hardened in reaction to being struck, filling in armor breaches during combat. Armament wise it is equipped with Sixteen launch silos for "Short Range Module Missiles" capable of launching anything from probes to small nuclear devices. Further complementing this is a number of small conventional ballistic turrets and a single large railgun turret on a dorsal mount. Equipment wise it carries two large dropships equipped with modular bays for refitting according to mission profile, these are in turn docked to a large cargobay. Along with this the Alexei supports basic on board fabrication for its own ammo and some equipment as needed. The "Grade 3" Refers to being capable of "Second Fleet" or "Raider" duty in military service.
