Olce gripped his handhold tightly, eyes flitting about, trying to gauge the location of the explosion. Are we being shot at? he wondered, before he noticed the engineer, Rezani, flying over to the aft of the alien ship, clearly intent on checking out the mess. Nothing but lunatics out here.
Nothing but lunatics out here echoed through Inera's mind as he tried to focus in the darkness of the airlock. Why do Para-Scientific Investigators always have to operate under the veil? Flying out on policing missions with all those noisy trigger-happy OSA thugs who supposedly represent our best and brightest next to the FRF... Mentally blocking out the other Cphea, he tried to attune his psionic senses to the newcomers.

"That the retrieval boat?"
Eren, still peering into the optics, responded "Yeah. Pretty certain. ETA, say about twenty. Got a slide rule I can borrow?"

The ops officer said "They're sending something down to the planet." Aaron shook his head in frustration. "Any idea what it is?" His subordinate checked the scanners' information again, but found nothing new. "No. We have some idea of the size, and obviously its atmo-capable, but nothing more than that." After considering future options, Aaron gave new orders. "When they leave, or at least, when they shouldn't be able to detect it, deorbit us and find us a swampy area like where we found the creatures." The ops officer interrupted to say that the area the extraction took place in was now on the night side of the planet, and almost opposite the aliens' position. Aaron gave a grave smile. At last. A break. "Anyway, put us down near it. Then we'll need to camoflage the Fury so we can power down the stealth generator. We can get more done on the ground."

The Jnath got a response from a station in orbit of Xochima. "The terms of the cease-fire will not be discussed in person. Hostiles are not permitted on board property of the Celestial Federation. You will soon be speaking with a represnative of the Celestial Federation." There was a brief pause before a different voice began to speak over the communications channel. "What are the terms of this agreement?"

"We did not intend to discuss it in person. That is purposeless. Now, then, the terms." The Order's diplomat said. "The terms are simple. A cessation of hostilities and an exchange of starmaps that detail our territorial spheres of influence, so that we may avoid accidental incursions into each other's space. Are these terms acceptable?"
Meanwhile, on Lheiss, a large number of animals have been stunned and captured. Some of the shuttles, now full, lift off and return to the freighter.

Nalmerk was silent, waiting for some sort of response on the radio, he wasn't entirely sure if the message he had sent got through or not let alone if it was understandable. Taking notice of another ship that had arrived had him more then jittery, which unfortunately was translating to the control systems. The various RCS thrusters on his vessel flickering slightly, causing the ship itself to jitter slightly though not to any degree worth worry or concern yet.

The Uskalik (The government of the Kithul) proceed to send out five reconnaissance ships from their home system- Che'Te. The five ships headed out into different directions, attempting to find a new system to colonize and possibly a sign of more advanced sentient life. Said ships were only meant to scan about, seek any habitable planet or system, then return with the information gathered and thus the leader would proceed to decide the next course of action on their quest of exploration and expansion of their species. The Kithul, while having explored their system to the fullest, had easily found themselves in a case of resource limitation, they would not allow such a thing to go without attempting to do the alternatives. The crew of each ship was left to be the minimal crew with a elite team of marines- a total of four marines and six crew members.
Each ship would explore space for a short duration of time- three coming back from finding nothing of value (and the nowhere close to anything alive) meanwhile the other two would find two systems- they both scanned for some duration of time...If there was any intervention to be made by a outside source, they could do so easily at this time.
In the Che'Te system, there were a total of three shipyards, two construction craft and the three scout class light corvettes.

By the time the Celae shuttles had begun returning to their mother ship, the Fury had already deorbited. It was tearing over terrain at an altitude of a few thousand metres as it scanned for swampy areas. It wasn't long before it found some, at which point it turned to head for it and began its descent. The wailing engines quietened a little as it reduced thrust for landing, and then landing skids descended from the Sneak Recon's underside. It splashed down lightly, before coming to rest on a bank of more solid ground.

Now full of samples, ranging from large animals to plants to single-celled organisms, the freighter exits the system, heading back to Karea where all sorts of tests will be performed on the samples. The cruiser, however, remains in orbit of the planet.
Scientists are excited to get their hands on living specimens of carbon based life. The lifeforms, if they were intelligent, would not be so excited. Especially if they knew what horrors and brutality they would soon endure. But it was all for the greater good of the Order.

It took some time to get the Fury to look like its surroundings, especially when the people doing so were working at night and on a spacecraft that was invisible. Once done though, Aaron had to admit it looked impressive. Stepping out onto the earthen bank that rose out of the boggy water, he looked around. He had a tablet in his hand to show him the surroundings in low-light amplification, and as he scanned, he noticed a large rock face not far off, and grinned. "We have mining lasers, right?" he asked, and waited for someone nearby to reply. A lieutenant replied "Ah, yes s... Captain! We do! They should be in the cargo bay." Aaron turned to face the speaker. A young male, seemed a little flustered at speaking to his spacecraft's commander. He nodded, and said "All right then. Organise a party to get them operational, and see if we can't start work on some sort of base there. At the very least we might find some coal, and the uplifts will appreciate that." With aliens in the system, he considered, we're aren't going to be able to take this at a leisurely pace. Even knowing we can build underground here will help the uplifts' efforts to... well, 'modernise' scarcely covers it. They'll have a lot of catching up to do, and not much time to do it in.

A blip emanated from the device behind Pell, followed by another. Trying to fight the need for sleep, he wiped at his eyes and pulled the illumination lever. The industrial lighting flickered as it came on, illuminating a metal box buzzing with electricity, its wiring waving about the module in free-fall. What now...
Picking up the transcript, he stared perplexedly at the marks. This isn't code. Maybe a mistake? Perhaps the test array is broken? He swung himself out of the lab and into the wireless room, thinking Best to signal the other test stations, see if this isn't just an isolated event, and keep listening for more.

Ordinator Senil stood on the metal catwalk overlooking the thick glass tubes holding the larger carbon based samples. "These creatures are... interesting, if disgusting." He said, not turning to look at Supreme Commander Kinj'Thnak, who was standing beside him, also enjoying the view. "I want our scientists to find out how they work. Find out what makes them live... and then, kill them with it." Senil said. Kinj moved his fist across his chest in affirmation. "Pathogens, nanoviruses, bio-engineered organisms. Do whatever needs to be done to find the best way to exterminate them. And then... then the Celae will inherit the universe." The Ordinator added. Kinj did the affirmation gesture again. "By your command, Ordinator." Kinj left to speak to the head of the science team that would be handling the specimens of Carbon-Based Species 3782, or CBS-3782 for short. CBS-3782 was a small, mammalian-like species that walked on four legs and had a short tail. It measured a meter in length from head to tail, and stood a quarter of a meter high at its shoulders. It would be a good test subject, indeed.

"We're not entirely sure what is going on with the array, but we managed to triangulate the sources of some of these blips," Pell stated, shoving a sheet filled with figures to his colleague. "This is from our largest orbital observatory. Tell me if you see anything odd." Pell watched his friend's eyes flick over the paper, grinning when he saw them stop. "The atmosphere." "Around thirty-percent oxygen. The world is out of chemical equilibrium. That means there's life there, and it may be trying to signal us." "What about the other world?" "Oh. It's... odd. Definitely no life; about 60% nitrogen, 14% carbon dioxide, et cetera. Very odd. We're really not sure what's up with the signals from there." Pell grimaced, before continuing, "We're not sure what the array is detecting, either. This hyperlink technology is entirely experimental."

"It will be discussed with our leaders," replied the station to the Jnath. There was silence for several minutes, before the station began communicating again. "Your terms are deemed acceptable. Send us your maps first. Tricks will not be tolerated."
The Nixoch stayed on the radio frequency where the crew had picked up sound. It was played back, and was in a language they did not understand. The crew attempted to send packets of data over the channel, the first containing the Midyan alphabet, then audio pronunciations of the letters, and finally a text message in Midyan characters reading "Do you understand?"
WZ-18 flicked from camera to camera within the Latesi Interstellar Transporation headquarters. It was not acceptable to be idle. It was a rule that they themselves had created. But WZ-18 had no matters to attend to. The only matter to work it's way far enough up the corporate ladder to be investigated by WZ-18 were plans for several new models of ships. The scientists in the Latesi labs, working on faster transport technologies, had made a breakthrough that could give them a huge edge against other companies. FTL travel. The new models of ships had been designed with FTL travel in mind, and they were all military, just in case the universe proved to be hostile. A few shipyards had been fitted to produce FTL-capable ships, but none of the designs had been approved and finalized.

The paper flowed into Pell's hands, falling from the teleprinter as it punched out line after line of Cphea Government Code. His eyes scanned the page, and with a triumphant grin plastered to his face, he spoke to the crowd of Bureau officials: "The hyperlink device works perfectly. Any questions? Yes, you, no, the one with the hat... Yes, it's not radial. Communications are perfectly secure... Yes, there is no presently known way to jam hypercomms..."
The exuberant grin that had been stuck to his face for most of the day had yet to have worn off when he aimed the transmission array to the alien star. 30% oxygen with minimal contaminants, capable of hyperspace communication, surely they must be a reasonable people. He left a paperweight on the switch, locked the lab door, and departed for his quarters.

Before FTL travel, there was FTL communication. The scientists had scaled up subspace communication to send ships at FTL speeds. Since the Insar had only expanded across one system, FTL communications were a novelty as lightspeed messages arrived fast enough. Still, Latesi had set up a few subspace posts in the system for experiments. They were rarely communicated on. It came to a surprise to the AI managing Latesi communications, XT-10, that a long, loud, beep was received by one of the subspace posts. The signal did not originate from any source in the system, and after several quick calculations, was determined to come from an alien star. FTL travel and first contact come close together, thought WZ-18.
Twenty-five hyperdrives had been produced, ready to be fitted to any ship. One of the most useful vessels in the Luvos-Insar War, the Contractor, was selected to be fitted with one. The single Contractor, called the Safe Investment, was sent to one of the FTL vessel ready shipyards, where it was quickly fitted with a hyperdrive. It set off with a single AI personality and exobody. KT-11 engaged the Safe Investment's hyperdrive, and began the journey to the origin of the signal's source.
The Midyans, the intended recipient of the signal, received a faint beep on their sensor station currently engaged with the Celae Order. The crew would look at it later, it was probably a Celae transmission that was beamed too widely.

Pell pulled the weight off of the switch, yawning. Hope somebody got that, he thought, scribbling onto a note and roughly shoving it into the vacuum tube for it to be copied and dispatched to the rooms of his fellow researchers. He yawned, and seated himself at his work-space, fiddling with a bit of twisted metal before getting up and searching for the coffee maker. --- "Hey Aix, take at look at this." Aixel floated over to the eyepiece that his friend yielded. Making sure not to move the telescope, he peered into the lens and remarked "Huh. What an odd rock." After several seconds of silence, his friend ventured "What's it like being behind a scope with a trigger all day?" "Tempting," Aixel joked. "No, not really. The trigger-happy gland is something they surgically remove before sending us up." "Says the one who keeps breaking the records."

The Safe Investment left hyperspace, assisted by the gravity well of a gas giant. A quick scan of the system revealed the gas giant was the second most massive object in the system, the first being the star. Whoever inhabited the system was lucky enough to have a brown dwarf, a wonderful source of useful gasses! thought KT-11. It was no place for someone to live though. The Safe Investment began a burn towards a terrestrial planet, where someone would probably put down heavy industry. The Safe Investment was constantly scanning for objects in orbit of the planet, and detected several small and regular enough to be unnatural. KT-11 plotted a course into orbit of the planet.

Aixel poked idly at his lunch, listening more to Pell's story than anything. "And so it was that I got to present aforementioned work of technomagic to a bunch of high-level officials." Uetrech looked up from his meal, saying "I doubt they understood a single thing you said." Aixel, gestured around with his toothpick; "You know, the higher-ups know what they're doing. At least in a big picture kind of way. The tiny details are for us to-" An alarm interjected abruptly, silencing the three. Aixel continued, saying "The tiny details are for us to go blow up. That's our alert," before getting up and rushing out, Uetrech at his side.
The Fist of Sahran undocked from the station; the Firebringer's engines blazed into life, pushing it into an intercept course with the outsider vessel.

KT-11 noticed a smaller object speed out from the station, probably a ship. They hoped there wouldn't be a misunderstanding. The Safe Investment rotated and began to slow down. KT-11 remembered that fast approach meant attack approach, if the residents of the system experienced war like the Insar. The Safe Investment first tried to contact the ship, and then tried to contact the station. KT-11 loved multitasking, organics were so silly for sticking to such inefficient systems. Crew? I am my ship thought KT-11.

"You sure that's a pirate vessel?" "Look, they didn't send us their SRN or a greeting or anything. Even if it looks weird, it's probably just so it can get close and kill us when we're complacent." "I still say we try contact. They're slowing down, at least. And they... sent us and the yard this gibberish. I feel like this counts as a greeting?" "Fine. Tell gunnery to hold fire, but to not let their guard down. Give me that transcript."
The Fist of Sahran swung its wireless array towards the intruder, sending, in Fast Response Force Code, Orbital Safety Association Code, and General Communications Code, OUTVESSEL STATE NAME PURPOSE ORIGIN FULLSTOP.

KT-11 was surprised. They expected translation would be needed, but it would at least be digital. The residents that KT-11 was dealing with seemed to barely have grasped the concept of digital communications. Not having a way to communicate so archaically, KT-11 tried their best. HELLO THIS IS LATESI INTERSTELLAR TRANSPORTATION VEHICLE SAFE INVESTMENT RESPONDING TO SUBSPACE SIGNAL FROM CURRENT LOCATION FULLSTOP KT-11 hoped the message was short enough to be received by the primitive residents. No self-respecting AI could work with such old technology, the residents must be organic. A Luvos hologram it is thought KT-11. I hope it doesn't scare them.

Uetrech gazed about the silent CIC room. "You guys got that?" he asked, "Or is my hearing not what it used to be." Nalmerk heard the response, the computer automatically gathering the data packets. It took a few moments before it finally provided him with useful data from the packets, He looked them over for a moment as the computer played a few of the audio pronunciations. Muting the channel for a moment He tried rather simply to mimic one of these pronunciations, unfortunately his vocal "cords" simply giving a sort of whistling tune. He shook his head slightly, then just sent a data packet over the frequency back, with the very simple text message "I understand"

The Jnath transmits map files to the Midyans. The maps do not contain the locations of the Celae's systems, rather it simply highlighting the sphere of territory claimed by them. Hopefully that would please the Midyans.

KT-11 sent a message back to the Fist of Sahran. I WILL FOLLOW FULLSTOP. KT-11 waited for the Fist of Sahran to make the first move.
"Please identify your ship and origin," replied the Nixoch via text. The crew took a gentler approach, not wanting to set off another conflict.
The starmaps were received by the sensor station, which sent back maps of the same style. Celestial Federation control was marked as a broad area around several stars, some of which didn't have Midyan colonies. The Celestial Federation hoped the Order wouldn't investigate too much into the matter as the treaty was intended to stop ships from going to the two state's spheres of influence. "We have fulfilled our side of the treaty, and you have fulfilled your side. Leave immediatly."
