[Kingdom of Athos] [Planet Lacor, city of Falcon's Point, Royal Space Center]
As the Corvettes completed analysis after analysis over the next few days, they transmitted their results to the space center, meaning that the communications room had to be kept staffed at all times. The good news? Two of the systems were identified as having planets suitable for colonization. The third was rather unexceptional, and would be left to the civilian mining corporations. Papers are filed to arrange for a colonization effort as soon as possible.

[On board the C-249 Discovery]
After what seemed to be only a few seconds in FTL to the crew of the C-249 Discovery, the corvette dropped out of FTL in a flash of light. Ricardo immediately began a scan of the system as Arvad powered down the slipstream drive. Ricardo turned to the guard who was standing slightly behind him, "Go get those scientists," he said, "it's time for them to do their job." the guard nodded and headed towards the scientists' quarters, Ricardo turned back to the terminal to look over the preliminary results of the system scan. "This is interesting." he said, "What?" Arvad asked, he had taken off his headphones for once. "The planet in the system," Ricardo said, "we'll have to do a more detailed scan, but the planet seems to be source of the readings we've been getting."

[Vorskel Confederation] =VSS Warspite=
The VSS Warspite, the first of the Hive class carriers orbited above the home world of Kesh. The rest of the battle group was clustered around it. The warships were seemingly motionless, or nearly motionless over the planet. However, in reality they were traveling at several kilometers per second. The crews knew this, but they were well past the stage of being surprised by this. Individuals who work in space for a living got used to using speeds and distances incomprehensible to people on a planet. Warships in the Rakesh system was not a new concept. However, these ships were some the first equipped with perhaps the greatest technical innovation in the history of the Vorskel; warp drives. They wouldn’t be the first to go interstellar, but they were the first with FTL capabilities.

-Orbital Fleet at Kethend- It was finally decided that two Isrum could be deployed for long term exploration. The long term deployment that would be required though would mean the Isrum would be sacrificing reserve fighters for cargo room, however the captains themselves argued that it wouldn't be much of a loss given they doubted that deployment would be required. The first, the "Jamlar" would maneuver to wait at the gate. The gate in question would be in the processing of changing its destination point to the small cluster of stars that was suspected as the best chance to find something. The other Isrum, the "Lukra" would be awaiting information on where it was to be sent.

-Orbital fleet at Kethend- The gate had finally aligned, on the other end a small flicker point would appear. Invisible to hyperspace but perfectly visible on other wavelengths, it would show only as a Sphere, roughly Two hundred meters across, a hole in the fabric of space. From this side though nothing could pass through, merely observe. The Jamlar would approach the gate before passing beyond the horizon, vanishing into the rift on its side. For them mere moments would pass before they appear on the otherside, though some time would actually pass normally. During that time however, the gate would actually begin directing to a new location, the rift tunnel slowly collapsing behind the Jamlar, causing no harm as both the closing and the Jamlar traveled at the same speed, ensuring the Jamlar would exit before the tunnel closed on it.

[In the Deep Space sensor station in the Dalhar System]
Yuruk was practicing his juggling, using all 4 hands to juggle 12 balls, juggling had been his hobby since he was a boy, and he practiced it whenever things were slow in his department, which was always it seemed. With the FTL sensors that had recently been installed on Arlash, the main planet in the Dalhar system, the other sensor relays were only used now and then for scientific purposes. Still, someone had to keep an eye on them in case they indicated some sort of catastrophe. Yuruk stopped juggling and looked at his wath, there was another hour to go until the end of his shift, he sat down in his chair and leaned back, rubbing his eyes. He looked at the panel when a loud beeping sound came from one of the sensor displays, he scooted his chair forward, the gravimetric sensors were going wild, he began typing on the console, he pulled up a map of the Dalhar system and used the previous readings to try to pinpoint the source of the disturbance, it was a sector of space near the last planet in the Dalhar system, there was no reason for the disturbance. He grabbed the phone, "Sir," he said when the commanding officer of his sector picked up, "the gravimetric sensors just went wild. Yes, I know that it could be a natural occurrence, but sir, it's way out in the middle of nowhere, there is nothing to cause it. Yes sir, I'll send the coordinates to you immediately." Yuruk put down the phone and began typing again.
[On board the C-249 Infinity]
Uthar settled down in his chair as the captain of the corvette, Rachil set course for the coordinates that had been given to them. They had been about to enter FTL, but now they were headed for a sector of space in the middle of nowhere because some scientists detected some sort of gravitenic disturbance, or something like that, in his opinion is was a waste of time, they would get out there and find absolutely nothing. The corvette began heading for their destination, it would take awhile to get there, but they couldn't do much about it, the slipstream drive wouldn't work for this, Uthar settled in for a long ride.

-Jamlar, Isrum Class- Ixram was at the bridge of the Jamlar as it came through the gate, a few days after the point had appeared. His first orders upon the ship entering into real space again was to order for a full scan of the surrounding space. The crew slowly begun to respond, disoriented from the trip slightly, the effects of transitioning being a rather unpleasant one for those not used to it. The bridge of the ship was similar to a cylinder, the walls reinforced and the bridge itself probably the most armored and protected point. Computers lined the exterior of the cylinder while holograms were projected through to show a central image of the ship and its condition. Slowly though the hologram was shrinking as the radius of detected space begun to expand, a large hole right where the gates exit point was, at least for a few moments. The exit point vanishing just as it had appeared.

"What do you mean it's gone?" Uthar said into the communication device, "Just what I said," Yuruk replied, "one minute it was there, the next it's gone, just as suddenly as it appeared." Uther couldn't believe what he was hearing, "So basically," he said, "we came out here for nothing." "No," Yuruk said, "Colonel Renit wants you to continue on to the last location of the disturbance, there might be something there to indicate what it was." Uther clicked his mandibles in annoyance, "Fine." he said before cutting the channel, it looked like they were stuck with this job, but that didn't mean he had to like it. He stalked back to his quarters as the corvette continued on it's way to the location of the disturbance, though it was still very far away.

==Bashmeli's Hive== =Ringworld of Gilmar=
The corvette would drop out of FTL, picking around the asteroids slowly as it conducted the first real forays into research that the Hive is doing. The Hive would be overflowing with enough resources to keep their growth going for months simply from several days worth of asteroid shipments. Slag would be recycled as possible and rock would be used to line the higher levels of the Hive built into the soil layer while Workers would tunnel out on every level possible, expanding the living space for the now nearly 55,000 Workers and Soldiers who called the Hive home, along with moving the eggs of the Nobility and three new Queen eggs to their own brooding chambers so that they could be nurtured until they all hatched at the end of the year.

Ricardo muttered under his breath as he typed on the computer, "We'll have to get closer for a detailed scan," he said, "setting a course." He inputted the coordinates for the strange planet and prepared to start a burn. "Sir," Arvad said, "I'm picking up another ship, it's in the systems asteroid belt." Ricardo stopped what he was doing and pulled up the sensor results. "Well I'll be..." he said to himself, "Looks like that old theorist was right, we aren't alone in the universe." he pulled himself out of the shock of realizing that there was an alien ship in the same system as him and said "Set a course, let's get a closer look, but keep your distance, we don't want to be foolish about this. Oh, and send a communication back to Tronjal, give them the scan results and tell them we'll give an update as soon as we know more." The Corvette started a burn and began approaching the asteroid belt.

-Jamlar, Isrum Class- "Sensor contact finally, Asteroids nearby, nothing to major", Ixram just shook his head, looking at the sensor signal himself as he said "Are you BLIND? That mass out there is moving to fast to be an asteroid, to refined a shape", "What else could it be? some sort of new comet?" Another sensor operator glanced over the signals, shook his head "No, not a comet, what ever it is, does have a distinct look to it on sensors" After a few moments though the signal jumped then faded, Ixram shook his head "Perhaps it was just some sort of mass then, Keep a look out for anything of interest, I don't want to move until we know if there's any navigational hazards here" the helmsman gave a holler "Hey! its not like I can't handle this ship, pretty decent handling if you ask me!"

-- Corrundian prototype wakeship Telaya , in high orbit above Horra -- -- Commanding Officer's Quarters -- ( from the viewpoint of Tarus Emerius, arch-marshal and elector of the Empire)
Sitting at my desk within the relative compactness and quaintness of the room so graciously provided to me, I sorted through the years of copies of paperwork, power plays in the Imperial courts, work orders, and what amounted to a people's sweat and tears over the last few years, remembering all of this is why I, "humble servant and nobleman of the Empire" am currently floating within a tub of metal several thousand kilometers above my home. Do I regret what I am about to subject myself to? No, I don't. Perhaps it was a bit of fancy talk and brainwashing on some of this project's benefactor's part, but.... I've never really been one to be a man of space and science fiction; stories best relegated to recreation and kept away from politics but irreversibly slamming into reality like a retarded kinsmen accidentally flinging himself into the nearest wall. All I know is, this day would deci---
" Arkevaressan. The ship's preparations are ready. We will be able to begin the test as soon as you are willing."
The voice of the Telaya's chief engineer blurting out of the room's intercom speaker proved enough to awaken me from my bout of daydreaming and philosophizing.
I smashed the intercom control on my desk, figuratively of course, and informed him I would be on the way to the command bridge, and rather sluggishly afterward getting up, checking my coat for loose ends, and getting on my way into the history books, not that I didn't already have a, shall we say, colorful encyclopedia record as it is. You see, when you have had plenty of hardship in your life, people tend to notice.

"Can we get a clear reading on what's there yet?" Uthar asked as he entered the bridge, "Not as of yet," Rachil replied, "we're still too far out for our sensors to make any sense of it." "Can't you make this thing go any faster?" asked Uthar, "I'm already pushing it as it is." Rachil replied hotly, "If I went any faster we'd run the risk of overloading the drive. As it is the drive is beginning to give off quite a bit of residual radiation from the strain, nothing harmful though." Uther cursed under his breath, before stalking back to his room.

After several hours, a signal would be returned from the Corvette's radar sensors. The Corvette would pinpoint where the alien craft is and Teshmel would control his Workers to enter warp and set a course to the alien craft. A second shockwave would happen as they entered warp, emerging some 40 minutes later about 0.2 AU away from the alien craft. They would wait for it to interact with them.

Ricardo was still trying to figure out where the ship had gone, it had been there 40 minutes ago, then there had been a strange energy signal and it was gone. Suddenly the sensor display beeped, the ship had reappeared about .2 AU out from the C-249. "How did it do that?" Arvad asked incredulously, "There was no Slipstream drive signal." "Who says an alien species has to use a slipstream drive for FTL?" Ricardo said, but he was just as curious as Arvad, if the ship had a drive capable of FTL travel that wasn't limited to between stars, the implications were gigantic. "Try to open a channel." he said, Arvad nodded and began hailing the strange ship.

[Kingdom of Athos] [RNS Imperium]
Captain Fyran Magleum leans back in his chair as the exploration Frigate sails through the interstellar void, to his right a monitor displays the results of the long-ranged scans of surrounding space; no sign of any more stars. He sighed, two systems with either planets capable of supporting life or significant orbital mineral deposits had already been charted, but it didn't seem like there would be any more in the timespan of this mission. He stood, preparing to surrender the chair so the executive officer could take the next shift, when he was startled by a ping indicating that another system had been located; he waved the officer aside and ordered a course set for the system, he could stand a little over time.
(Unless you have any objections, Max, I'd like this system to be the star that the Ringworld is constructed around.)

-Jamlar, Isrum Class- The sensor officers were beginning to get into argument over if the mass they spotted on sensors was an asteroid or something else, "See, with that kind of mass, it has to be some kind of dense asteroid", "No no, its moving to fast to be an asteroid, its likely some sort of stellar object", "If by stellar object, you mean a spaceship then yes", "No no no, couldn't be a spaceship, there's nothing but rocks out here", "But it COULD be a spaceship I'm telling you!". Ixram just shook his head as he watched the sensor bubble, hey could see the object incoming but still had no clue as to what it was. Part of him hoped it was just an asteroid though, given the ramifications if it was anything else.

"Captain Rachil," he said again, she looked at him, "what is happening?" "We are nearing the source of the disturbance, but I still can't detect anything from this distance with our sensor arrays aligned as they are. I'm attempting to adjust them to increase their range to include the location of the disturbance." Uthar leaned his head on his upper left claw. "I understood about a tenth of that." he said, Rachil rolled her eyes, "Basically, I'm trying to see if I can detect anything." she said exasperatedly. "Oh, then by all means, carry on." Uthar replied before going back to reading his book, he had gotten so bored of this ship that he couldn't be angry about his boredom.

-- Corrundian prototype wakeship Telaya --
-- The bridge -- ( Written from the viewpoint of Tarus Emerius)
Everyone in the bridge was too busy to notice me walking in, so I casually snuck over, in a sense, to the central command station where I would be conducting the final performance tests before the jump. Opening an intercom channel, I let everyone know: " Attention, all stations. Prepare for final systems tests."
The next half a standard hour, or so, we spent the time spinning the ship around in what I'm sure was more than 360 degrees and burning a full orbit around our planet, catching twelve minor issues with electrical and internal equipment, charging the wake drive capacitors, and most crucially ensuring artificial gravity could handle all the maneuvers we had performed before. That done, I had the boys say their last goodbyes ( assuming we are to be completely vaporized by this experiment), and we started off for the outer system.

[RESEARCH] Beamed Power: Lasers [1/20] [CONSTRUCTION] [5/5 IN USE] 3x Guardian Frigate [1/14] 2x Hope Frigate [1/14]
"There's a Vir'Yau here to talk to you, Space Marshal."
Na'Zao looked at the intercom for a few seconds, then rubbed his bleary eyes. After giving a yawn, he reached over to the little device and hit a wide bar at the bottom. "Send them in." he replied, and checked his appearance in a mirror on his desk next to the aetherphone. Tall, but slouched, and with dry scales, Na'Zao knew he looked as tired as he felt. But SpaceForce was gearing up for something important, so there was a lot of paperwork and meetings to go through. He quickly stretched his uniform down a little, then tugged at the neckline to free it a little. For a few seconds, he sat trying to make himself feel more awake, before the door buzzed and a male Tal'Ryth in the customary clothes of a Fyrennese Civil Service Director General entered. Vir'Yau seemed almost obscenely well rested, and he looked perfectly groomed. The Civil Servant sat down in one of the seats across Na'Zao's desk without asking.
"What are these pillows made from, rocks?" Far'Zi Vir'Yau grinned, showing rows of sharp white teeth, then sat back. He seemed completely at ease, and continued to watch Na'Zao calmly despite the Space Marshal's lack of reaction.
"No." he replied simply. I'm too busy for games. I wish he'd get to his damn point already instead of trying to prove his inherent dominance. You're on Ciranan turf now, boy. Folding his arms on his desk and letting his sheathed talons curl back behind him, Na'Zao leaned forward. "So, what can I do for you this evening, Director General?" Vir'Yau grinned again.
"I hear the MOC is planning on mounting an expedition into unknown, distant territory. And I hear it's going to be sending military units from the colony revolt suppression task group to do it." The civil servant paused, and Na'Zao sat straight-faced watching him, despite the irritation he felt. Go on, you arrogant windbag, since you like hearing the sound of your own voice so much. "Obviously, the Fyrennese government would prefer that suppression forces be available whenever they are needed. And we'd prefer that our exploration of the galaxy be peaceful." Na'Zao resisted the urge to snort. Fyrenne was the most expansionist of the three LAN superpowers, and at least three of its offworld colonies had formerly belonged to independent nations who simply hadn't had the armed forces or the political connections to fend the annexations off. "In light of our peaceful intentions, we have a proposal. We won't block the operation in the LAN Assembley, so long as it's agreed that Fyrennese observers from the Search For Foreign Life institute are included in the expedition."
"Interesting..." Na'Zao muttered, to give himself a little time to think. Any Fyrennese 'observers' would likely be disruptive loose cannons at best, and actively intent on sabotaging the mission at worst. But Director General Vir'Yau sounded serious when he said that Fyrenne could and would block the physical investigation of the odd shadow sources on the Star Survey Space Telescope. StarTel for short, wasn't it? H'mm. If I get forced to go through with this, I'm going to want someone to ride herd on the 'observers'. I'll make some calls in the morning, after I've had a good sleep. "Okay, I'll level with you. This isn't my decision, it's a political one. But I'll make sure some seats are reserved on the loading flights." The Civil Servant's grin seemed to impossibly grow yet wider.
"Wonderful."

After a moment the one crewmember stating "Objects trajectory calculated, it is on approach vector", Ixram thought for a few moments before speaking, "Alright, Keep an eye on it, if it starts approaching on collision trajectory I want it dealt with" one of the sensor operators shouted "We still don't know WHAT it is though!"

"OK, I'm getting a reading from area of the source of the disturbance." Rachil said as she typed on the computer, Uthar sat up, putting his book on the floor next to his chair, "Anything of interest or can we go home now?" he asked. "I'm afraid we can't," Rachil said calmly, but Uthar could see on her face that she was both excited and afraid at the same time, "from what I can tell with these readings, there is some kind of ship near where the disturbance was, bigger then a corvette, maybe a frigate." Uthar didn't see how this was exciting and scary, so the disturbance came from one of their frigates that probably had a malfunction or.... Then he realized what she was saying, "You mean...." he said slowly, "That there is an alien ship sitting out there?" Rachil nodded, "That's exactly what I'm saying." she replied, "I'm sending the information back to Arlash, and broadcasting a radio signal towards the ship, we may not have to get too close to make contact."
