In 2062 following several massive investments from "anonymous" sources a new type of entertainment was being developed. Information was kept secret for some time, until a grand unveiling that took a good part of the world by surprise, the "entertainment" system was two fold. The first used advances in 3d printers to make simulator "pods" for various vehicles, thus allowing the players to work and operate inside or on the vehicle as if it were real. The second was a massive virtual arena created for these pods, focused around various bases, players could join into teams which would adopt bases and even join other teams to create larger clans. While this might seem overdone, the real trick was that the military's of various nations were quick to jump in, pitching in their own developmental assistance. While the project itself was slow to get going, within just two years it had taken off, warehouses were bought in quite a few places to setup the simulators for people, while the 3d printing setup ensured it wasn't to costly.
That was then, 16 years have passed, the virtual setting has become much like a WWII Theme, tanks dominate the field as they are the 2nd easiest entry to the game world. The first being infantry, who are a mix of players and AI. Aircraft while available are often hard to come by, limiting the amount of players with them. Finally there are the grand naval ships, to which the only simulator "pods" currently in existent for them are owned by national navies, making them the rarest of all. As the world has progressed, so has the situation surrounding it. The game itself is streamed on TV's, with various competitions often reaching the national news. Military's across the globe offer incentives to those that prove themselves above and beyond average players in the game. However, in the game world itself, its changed somewhat more drastically. With the game world expanded to an entire globe its not hard to understand when war breaks out between two rival factions, this however, has grown to epic proportions, with players having developed their own nations even, vast swaths of land under the control of various clans. Almost to top it off, an actual in game world with cities and industry actually exists now.
Whats most important though, is the War of 2074, having started 4 years ago as a heated territory dispute between the "Confederation of Wizards" or "COW" for short, and "Imperial Men of the Pacific" or "IMP" for short. This has grown into a global war between quite a few groups. Cow and Imp are still at the center of the main war, with others using the chaos to try and expand their own territories without fear of alliance reprisals. With 4 years having gone by, the situation is still somewhat of a gridlock, with "Orthodox Religion of Crazy Aliens" or "ORCA" getting involved as a third power player. The result is suffice to say, total chaos, with media coverage of it not only being notable in the real world, but having gained its own dedicated channels on most major Television networks.
=RULES=
1: Admins have final say
2: No Godmodding/Powerplaying/Ubering/what ever it is you people call it anymore
3: Equipment should be themed after WWII equipment (from June 5th, 1945 or earlier) you CAN flat out use equipment straight from WWII
4. The war is Virtual, there is a real world. Your avatar however, will continue to act even when you exit the game (Unless you are an AI, then the war IS the Real world for you)
5. Lost equipment will automatically be replaced when when you return to base, unless there is some resource shortage.
6. Death in game is not permanent, your Avatar simply "respawns" after a few hours at base with a penalty.
7. Simulators do not have to be fully crewed, AI can fill in for missing crew members (Though are usually less competent then a person)
8. Bases secure territory, each base is connected to either a city or an industry, capturing a base requires defeating the team defending it and changing the flag in the command post (Inside the building)
9. After a popular "Hack", Avatars are not required to be strictly human, they just have to fit in the same space a human does.
