++Intro++When the universe began, it was devoid of life; It had no stars or planets. But, bit by bit and piece by piece, they were all brought into existence. The first stars blazed forth, and the planets soon followed. Not long after, life developed and, over time, became vastly more complex - evolving from simple cells to sapient creatures. They became more intelligent, more inventive, more advanced. They left their home planets behind, and leapt out to mingle among the stars. The first among these races are what the modern galaxy would come to call the Precursors. Why they died remains a mystery; they are gone now, and all that is left are ghostly relics, objects that might be the key to technology of unfathomable power. These Precursors spread themselves across many worlds. Some of these worlds would go on to become host to new sapient life, propelling themselves into space to follow the paths of the Precursors; some using technology gleaned from lost relics left on their homeworlds, others advancing on their own. Many wonder now, will they die as the Precursors did? Or will they survive? Today, the galaxy of Vanaad is filled to the brim with sapient species of wildly varying levels of advancement. Some will wage war in attempts to conquer all that stand in their path, others will seek peace and understanding between all people. Some will simply try to protect their own against those who would do them harm. Others, still, will have goals so alien we can scarcely comprehend them. It is in this galaxy that we are born, and it is in this galaxy that we will likely die. What happens in-between is our choice, and it is what we are to be remembered for. The year is Standard Galactic Year 2287, and the galaxy is at our finger-tips. Only with intelligence, prestige and strength will we survive, rule, and flourish, in the never-ending void of space. ++Notes++We have a wiki, located here: Stellar Horizons Wiki Please check the wiki for essential information, such as info on the Ship Construction System. You can gain new technologies by researching them. Researching looks like this: Advanced Railguns: 1/15 Every time you post, you increase the number before the / by one. You may research up to two things at a time, no more. You cannot research a prerequisite technology and the technology that requires it at the same time. Techs must be approved by admins before researching. Everybody starts with 25 military ships, 5 shipyards, and 5 Construction Craft unless you want less. You may start with up to 8 colonies. Shipyards take 40 posts to build, and you can only build them as long as you have Construction Craft. CCs take 5 posts to build and are necessary for building any orbital structure. Ships may only be built from shipyards. FACTION BONUSES: Faction bonuses are small bonuses factions/governments/nations or whatever you want to call them can take to boost themselves in some areas and differentiate each-other from other governments. ALL BONUSES MUST BE APPROVED BY ADMINISTRATORS. You may add your bonus at a later date if you like, you do not need it right when you make your faction. It needs to be something small. Examples: -20% Research Time for Energy Weapons techs +5 HP to Heavy Frigates -5 HP cost for Energy Weapons You may only have up to 3 faction bonuses. They come in three categories: -Equipment (Armor, Shields, Missiles, etc): May be up to a 20% bonus, except in special cases where it would result in costing an HP amount that is not a whole number. If the bonus takes up two slots, it can be a 50% bonus. -Research: Up to 20% bonus to research of a certain type. If it takes up two slots, then 30%. -Ships: Up to 10% bonus to a specific type of ship's (like Heavy Cruisers) HP count. If it takes up two slots, then 20%. ++Rules++- Rule 1: What administrators of the RP say, goes.
- Rule 2: No godmodding/ubering/whatever you want to call it. Exactly what this is will be determined by the administrators.
- Rule 3: No humans! This is in a different galaxy, humans do not exist here. Only exception is the Malsuth.
- Rule 4: Do not go too far with gore (no skinning people alive, no detailed torture, etc), alcohol/drugs, sexually suggestive content (no sex, if it's about to happen, fade to black), or violence.
- Rule 5: No plagiarism. Be original, do not rip content from Halo, Star Wars, Star Trek, or what-have-you.
- Rule 6: Do not harass users OOC or IC with the intent of causing them harm or driving them out of the thread.
- Rule 7: Use story style RP, not chat style. Chat style is putting actions in asterisks, *like this*. This is not acceptable.
- Rule 8: Precursor Artifacts may not be found without express permission from an admin.
- Rule 9: Use common sense.
- Rule 10: "It's not in the rules!" is not an excuse.

The Celaen Order corvette CWVO (Celaen War Vessel of the Order) Klnata exits the torrent of energy of its Ripspace Rupture in a star system 2 light years beyond the edge Kjn Expanse. The ship makes a quick scan of the system, detecting some sorts of signals emanating from a planet. It releases a large probe, and opens another Ripspace Rupture. It leaves, heading to its next designated system to explore, and the probe speeds towards the planet. Whoever was on the planet would likely detect the massive amount of radiation emitted by the Ruptures.

Caution, hull stress hazardous. Well thanks! I knew that aready! Aaron thought as the Fury slewed out of position, an RCS port firing wildly, leaving the spacecraft's maneuvering computer trying to compensate with other, undamaged ports. It's not gonna be enough... damn them! Plasma! Of course they had to have plasma weapons! The holographic screen that his wristband was projecting showed their short-term nemesis, a comparatively tiny Haikovan craft. The enemy vessel was also damaged, but it wasn't Fury that had dealt it - the damage was why the Haikovan ship had come to this Terran facility in the first place. How could something so pathetic defeat me? How could they have defeated the Fury? With light plasma cannons! He managed to cam himself down to think more rationally. Shouldn't have come in for a close pass. That put is in effective range of their weapons. Heat weapons, like plasma and lasers, can destroy our armour, and worse, make the armour itself into a saboteur... Now, how do I salvage this?
The Fury managed to get back under control, a crew member having found a manual shutoff for the broken RCS port valve. Aaron used his PDA to switch the view on the projector, showing the returns from the optical and RADAR imaging systems in three dimensions. Of course. The Earth ship. He made a predatorial grin, and turned to face the pilot. "New bearing. Come starboard 52, nose down 20. Throttle two thirds and make for a stopping intercept with the..." What was it named? "... the EAMS Saturn." As the engines rumbled loudly, he noted several loud creaking noises. The engineers didn't need him to tell them to shore up the structure. He sighed heavily, irritated, as a new warning appeared on the holographic screen. C-Core reaching critical temperature! "Extend the radiators. The toads over on that little coke can can't reach us with their weapons this far off."
Soon, the Fury was pulling alongside Saturn, and quicky docked. Aaron's grin returned. This is going to get interesting. He then loudly announced "Right! We need an engineering team on that wreck ASAP to recover its FTL drive. And get some of the guys from Supplies to start bringing consumables on board. We're going to use that Earth ship's... D-Jump drive... to get to hyperspace, make our repairs, then hop back. We're going to thrash them." His little speech had clearly improved the mood on the control deck, which pleased him. "Let's get them over with."

The radiation released by the Ripspace rupture was ignored by the Celestial Federation's sensor installations, a phenomenon for scientists to study. The object headed towards Xochima was a possible threat, prompting the dispatch of a Federation ship to intercept it. The ship, the CFIV Temoto, left Xochima's orbit on a course to intercept the probe.

The probe was quickly moving towards Xochima. It was unarmed, save for a small laser weapon that would only do any noticeable harm to an unarmored individual. It was broadcasting a signal on subspace and radio frequencies: "EXPLORATION PROBE OF THE CELAEN ORDER. NO HARM INTENTIONAL. DO NOT FIRE UPON. WE COME IN PEACE. WEAPON IS FOR SELF-DEFENSE ONLY. REPEAT. DO NOT FIRE UPON." the message just keeps repeating, over and over again. It'd reach Xochima in a few hours.

The message was received by the CFIV Temoto, as it had made a quick approach using it's FTL drive. The hums used by the Celae weren't interpreted as language by any of the Temoto's crew. It was decided they would try to bring it back to Xochima. Four crewmembers trained in EVA would leave the ship to try to move the probe into the Temoto's cargo bay.

The probe was 20 meters long and cylindrical with a diameter of 10 meters. While heavy, the four crewmembers could move into the cargo bay fairly quickly.

The engineering team reported that it was dragging the D-Jump drive back to the Fury's airlock, along with some of the control equipment. Security personell who had gone with them reported light resistance, with most of it quickly defeated. Three personnel had been grievously wounded in ways that would take their nanodrones a while to fix, but there had been no fatalities. Not in my crew anyway Aaron thought.
Soon, the D-Jump drive had been emplaced in an empty room near engineering. The Haikovan spacecraft hadn't moved. Maybe they're waiting for something? he wondered. Best not let them have the time to escape. "Is everyone off the Earth ship?" he asked. "Ours are. What remains of its crew are still on board." replied the operations officer. Aaron considered it for a few moments, then decided on a course of action. "Scuttle it. They'll inform Earth Authority of what we're doing. We can't let them do that." The weapons officer flinched, but Aaron gared at him. "Aye sir. Charging Heavy Pulse Cannons." One the outside of the craft, the two mounted and the turret HPCs began their warm-up cycles, rings of blue lights activating inside the barrel from the end to the muzzle. Energy from the AMR ws used to turn some material into a superheated gas, and the magnetic coils began throwing the gas particles out at relativistic velocities. The fire from the three weapons slammed into the Saturn, punching holes through it, and causing secondary explosions in the propellant and flak-shell magazines. Finally, one of the main propellant tanks in its Engine Section blew, ripping the unfortunate spacecraft into oblivion.
Aaron turned to the technical officer. "Can we activate the D-Jump drive?" he asked. "Yes sir." The captain smiled. "I appreciate the hard work you've all been doing. But it's far from over. Tell Mr Falken to get us to hyperspace." The technical officer laughed grimly and quietly. "Of course it is." The Fury suddenly disappeared, no longer existent in this universe, leaving the HSDPS Kizantikiran behind with the massacred Haikovan personnel on the Terran asteroid facility... before arriving in a different universe entirely. "What the hell?" Aaron demanded. "I see stars. This isn't hyperspace." The technical officer frowned. "No sir, it's not. And engineering is reporting a fire in the room they put the D-Jump unit in. Halon is suffocating it as we speak, but the drive is probably a total loss." Aaron stared at him. "What of that Haikovan ship?" The navigation officer spoke up. "Doesn't matter. The stars are wrong, we aren't where we were before."
The Fury's captain narrowed his eyes. "Of course it matters." he said quietly. "They need to die. We need to destroy them. I want to know where we are so we can go back and kill them." A few seconds later, the navigator swallowed, and said "Nothing matches my starmaps." The technical officer coughed for attention. "Just recieved word from engineering. The D-Jump drive caught fire after it made the jump, but probably malfunctioned beforehand. We're not in hyperspace. But it's highly unlikely we're still in the universe we came from." After digesting that information, Aaron left the control centre, leaving the technical officer with the conn. He headed for his room, and one inside, began making an awful lot of frustrated noise.

Four Jamtar class destroyers and a Halmer class vessel leave the shipyards, having just been fitted with the new FTL drives that had been developed. This was the first time such a drive was being mounted on a "Warship" as to say. The "Phoenix" drive as it was named after how it functioned. The Halmer class powered up its rather considerable sensor array, while the Jamtar's were still powering on other equipment. Nalmerk the first captain of the Halmer class, simply said over communication channels "Crescent Sun online, if its clear, beginning movement towards gas giant, will initiate Pheonix transfer to the system Ikasor" After several moments of no response from traffic control Nalmerk just shook his head, directing the craft to begin route towards the Gas giant Lumak. Once in position, the ship begun to dive, straight for the gas giant. Energy beginning to surge from the rear of the vessel towards the front as it dived towards the core of the Lumak. In a sudden flash of light the ship was gone, Traffic control simply stating over area communications "Huh? did someone just Dive?"
While it would only be a few seconds for Nalmerk, some time would pass before his ship would reappear. A surge of energy from a spot near the sun of the Ikasor system, bursting forth from the charge of energy the Halmer class would be unharmed. The energy charge from before dispersing from the forward back, rapidly radiating the energy to local space. For a few moments the ship would be still, taking the time to allow sensors to come back into order to observe the surrounding system. The research vessel that had served as testbed for the pheonix drive was sitting about a fourth an AU away, the crew on board recording information from their own jump and what they had just observed from the Crescent Sun's arrival

With the probe loaded into the Temoto's cargo bay, the EVA crew returned to the ship, and the Temoto jumped back to Xochima. It docked with a government run research station, and the probe was unloaded. It was brought into a lab to check the material composition of the probe, to check if there was any data stored in it, and to try to determine an origin.

The probe's outer hull was made of a composite alloy, while the inner guts were made of pretty standard things. The data inside was in a binary format, however it may take some time for the Midyans to decipher it. As for an origin, there was the insignia of the Celaen Order, though the Midyans would not know what it meant.

The majority of effort was put to trying to decipher the data from the probe. The Temoto was sent off again to investigate the radiation emissions. The radiation emissions were detected at nearly the same time the probe was, and it was obvious the probe was a sign of alien life. The Temoto headed towards where the radiation emissions were detected.

The emissions had been detected a few hundred thousand kilometers from the planet. There was nothing there now, though.
Eventually they managed to decipher some of the data, which was mostly operating system files and such. Things required to run the probe. There were, however, files regarding the model of the probe, where it was manufactured, and its specific serial number. It had been manufactured by "Order Space Developments", on the planet Karea in the Astraus system. There were no hints as to the location of Karea, though.

With no idea of where they were, and having recieved a report that the D-Jump drive was unsalvageable, Aaron was forced to reconsider his mission. With no Haikovans to kill in this universe, he had to come up with something new for Fury to do. He returned to the control centre when he was calm. "Begin a survey of nearby stars. Travel to them if neccesary. If we find life, report to me. Keep the stealth field up constantly. We have enough antimatter stored to do it, and if we don't find a new base of operations soon, we're screwed anyway." That should be everything... Aaron thought, But it feels like something's missing. "Oh, and, uh, good work guys."

The CWVO Klnata exits another Ripspace tear, this time a few light years away from the last system. It scans the system and detects no obvious signals, however it detects a planet with liquid water. It deploys a probe to investigate, while it charges up its ripspace drive again.

The four Jamtar class destroyers, Riktar, Lurak, Nemlar and Ostric would all move to the gas giant. One by one they would begin their decent, each in turn vanishing into the pulse of energy. Each had the destination of a nearby system, being sent to investigate for anything of interest in those locations. In each of the systems, the destroyer would reappear with a slight burst of energy near the sun. Seemingly launching forth from the sun itself, each in turn would then begin survey of the surrounding system for anything of interest. Nalmerk on the other hand, would just alert the science vessel "I'm heading to the furthest planet out, alert if there is a problem" The Crescent sun begun to head out to the furthest planet in this system, an Ice moon. Nalmerk didn't expect much a problem, given it'd likely show up on sensors first...at least thats what he hoped

The probe the Midyans have suddenly broadcasts a signal on subspace frequencies, aimed towards the Kjn Expanse. It has been recording the entire series of events, with several cameras. It's also recorded the Midyans trying to get into its files, but that was to be expected; they were designed to be opened.
Celae relay stations would pick up the signal and transmit it deeper into the nebula, eventually delivering it to Karea. The Ordinator himself receives word of the probe's transmission, which contains all of the recorded video. The Ordinator looks at the holographic panel playing the video. "What... are they?" He asks.
"We believe they are some sort of... carbon based life form. We thought such things were... theoretical. Apparently the scientists were right." Replied the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Celaen Order. He had a long title, so it was always shortened to "Supreme Commander".
"Send a detachment of the fleet to the probe's location. This is worth investigating. I want an Orator-class, and two Partisan-class vessels. Intimidate them. Show them on our very first meeting that the Celaen Order is a force they do not want to cross." The Ordinator said.
"Yes, Ordinator." The Supreme Commander replied, quickly exiting the Ordinator's office to rely his orders. The Ordinator, thinking, sat down behind his desk. His name was Senil'Therhj, and he was the third Ordinator Most High of the Celaen Order. His father, Therhj'Knajal, was the second Ordinator. He died 10 years ago, aged 294, assassinated by a Chaos Sect. Senil's first decree was to have them brutally executed. He did this personally. Senil's grandfather was the first Ordinator, the architect of the Celaen Central Government. He never got to see its true glory, having died 247 years ago, just 4 years after he formed the Order. He died peacefully at the age of 317. Senil himself was only 43, younger even than his father was when he took power. Ten years ago, he had only been 33, which was just under the Age of Maturity. When he reached 150, he would produce his own Heir and rule until the age of 300, when he would pass the throne of Ordinator onto his Eldest and live the rest of his years in service to the State.
Life was good for the Ordinator, and indeed for most of the Celae population. Most other species would find their way of life appalling. Few freedoms, with their government tightly controlling everything. But for most of the Celae, at least, this was a utopia. There were a few troublemakers, of course - the Chaos Sects, as they were known - who liked to disrupt the Celae's way of life. They were generally dealt with thanks to the high security of the Order, and often in less than painless ways. Still, Celaen society was mostly stable and life was good if you were on the side of the State.
The orders having been relayed, the Orator-class Cruiser CWVO Ytnok and the Partisan-class Frigates CWVO Jantl and CWVO Hael entered Ripspace over Karea, heading to the Midyan homeworld of Xochima. They would arrive in a day or so.

The Crescent Sun was only just beginning to headout as the furthest sensor readings came in. This however, was more then enough to attract Nalmerk's attention. Turning the ship around to full burn towards the sun, He didn't even send word to the science vessel other then a copy of the sensor data. He wasn't sure just what it was he was detecting on the far edge of sensors, just that it was residual energy from some sort of stellar effect. More specifically, it was obviously artificial due to wavelength, something somewhat easy to tell even though Nalmerk had slept through that entire class. In just a few moments The Crescent Sun descended into the sun, the Phoenix drive activating as the vessel vanished...while time would pass normally outside of transit, for Nalmerk, it would feel like mere seconds would pass for the hours of real space. The Crescent Sun bursting forth from the system* sun with a surge of energy, Sensors temporarily blinded from the transit.

The Action Stations alarm sounded throughout the Fury, waking Aaron in the process. He found a message waiting to be played when he picked up his wristband and checked it. 'Unidentified radio signatures discovered.', he read. Stealth field operational, passive observation in progess. He yawned, then got himself up. It took a few minutes to get read, before he walked leisurely to the control room. Observations weren't immediately important, so he could afford to take some time. "What've we got?" he asked as he walked in. The sensor operator, who he vaguely remembered had the first name 'Sam', spoke up. "We only have basic stuff at the moment, but this seems to be an inhabited star system. The designs of spacecraft we're seeing seem to represent a single aesthetic theme, so we can assume there's only one spacefaring power in this system." Aaron frowned. "Someone to watch out for, you think?" Sam shrugged. "No way to tell, but if we're playing it safe, then yes, I'd say avoid them." Recognising this basic logic, Aaron nodded. "Alright. Let's watch them a bit more. A few days should give us a good picture. Then we move on. We need to find a good planet to use as a base of operations."

About 5,000 km away from the Midyan ship carrying the probe, space is ripped apart by blue tendrils of energy. Three ruptures open, spilling out immense amounts of radiation. From the Ruptures emerge three ships, the Celaen ships sent to retrieve the probe. Once they are clear of the ruptures, they collapse. The shields on the ships go up and their weapons are armed.

The Temoto quickly detected the three Celaen ships, sending a signal to alert Celestial Federation Orbital Command, who mobilize three ships from drydocks in orbit of Xochima. A Reef-class cruiser and two Storm-class frigates are launched, speeding towards the Temoto's location to support it. The Temoto was a Minnow-class patrol boat, small and lightly armed. It sent a radio message to try to contact the Celae ships.

The Celae receive the message. They respond by sending a file to the Temoto. It contained what they'd need to translate the Celae language, and since they'd deciphered the probe's files they'd know how to decipher it.
Now that they know there is other life out there, potentially hostile life, the Order starts its production up again. It would need more ships to combat the Carbon Menace.

The powerful computers the Midyans used were able to quickly make us of the Celae's language codex, allowing them to translate the Midyan language to Celae, and vice versa. A message was sent back to the Order ships. "Identify yourself and your intentions. Defensives are in position to fire upon you if you prove to be hostile." The three ships sent to respond to the Celae arriving were 10,000km out. The Order ships were within range of the Celestial Federation vessels, who would be able to fire and hit the Order ships in under 10 seconds.
The arrival of an alien power alerted the Celestial Federation they would need to expand their orbital industry, in case the aliens proved to be hostile. They begin production of 5 additional shipyards, and 5 construction craft.

Aaron was still in the control room, looking at analyses of what the sensors were recieving, when Sam yelled "Sound action stations! New contacts." The alarm blared to irritating life, making Aaron wonder if it had been originally designed as a crowd control weapon. "Any more details?" he asked. Sam seemed to concentrate on her console, picking out finer details. "Three spacecraft. Again, unidentied, but of a different aesthetic to this system's inhabitants. Probably another race of aliens." Aaron nodded, then said "Cut the alarms. Do you think they can see us?" Sam looked at him, and shook her head. "Doubt it. Our steath is good. Though there might be technologies in this universe that can see through it. No way to know yet." He nodded. "Thankyou for your assessment. Now, I wonder what these newcomers will do?"
